A SENSIBLE POTTER - YOU UEDA

A SENSIBLE POTTER - YOU UEDA

YOU-UEDA-SILVER-PORCELAINE

I first noticed You's ceramic work while visiting the workshop of his father as I was looking to train in Japanese ceramics while in Yamagushi. His delicate pieces seemed slightly out of place amongst the dark bold traditional pieces of his father's . With a busy schedule as harbor pilot in the Murozumi bay, You gave us rendez-vous at dusk, in his house by the sea shore. From his workshop window we could see the tranquil family life, his three children already in pyjamas playing while waiting for their diner. You seems to carry on a search to find the perfect shade of white and even if he seems to be interested in colors from the many samples he collects preciousely in plastic boxes, on his shelves, drying, are only soft, creamy, perfectly shaped porcelain dishes that he recenlty started to cover in bronze and silver as if it was yet an other way to magnify his pure, simple delicate pieces.
