GROWING GOOD AT IZUHO FARM - YAMAGUSHI - JAPAN

A fig farm nested in the mountains of South Japan near Hiroshima where, "for community value and friendship we are also growing organic vegetables between fig harvest seasons". Their friends are restaurant owner, market vendors, neighbours or city dwellers who came down South, searching for a different life after the devastating earthquake on April 11, 2011. Manami and Daiji are "New Robinson" who decided to go back to their soil. Manami's father was a fisherman from Kazado island and she grew up as a city girl in Kudamatzu while her husband Daiji, was a DJ in Yamagushi. They decided to specialized in figs, supplying luxury stores from Tokyo to Osaka, growing about 10 different crops that they harvest and package in their high-tech laboratory between September to November. Around their main expertise, they explore and experiment with organic vegetables (carrots broccoli, salads, kale, cabbage and more), experimenting with new possibilities of compost (recycle coffee and tea) and experimenting with new varieties of Figs that cope with climate changes. A new way to serendipity.
